Buy a Pumpkin, Help Others
Every year, Asbury Bossier sells pumpkins to raise funds for community projects in our city and all around the world. Each pumpkin you buy helps out others! All proceeds from the patch support Asbury’s mission efforts, from local to international efforts. Supporting local at-need schools, wheelchair ramp ministry, flood relief, Volunteers of America’s Bossier Lighthouse, Fuller Center of NWLA Housing, Katy Build legacy home projects, Food Pantry, Blessing Boxes for Lighthouse families, Community Angel Tree with local agencies, Renesting Project, and more.
Starting Monday, September 29th, the Asbury Pumpkin Patch is open Sunday-Friday from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, and Saturdays 9:00 am- 7:00 pm. Open through October 31st.
Pumpkin prices vary according to size from $1 for the smallest to around $40 for a HUGE one. There is NO ADMISSION price.
Professional photographers are welcome, however we ask that they not tie up the photo sites for extended periods. Also, a tax deductible donation to the church would be very much appreciated. Please check in on our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/asburypumpkinpatch/
Pumpkin Source
Our pumpkins come from the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico. They grow 1,200 acres or approximately 2 square miles of pumpkins and employ over 700 Native Americans during the harvest months of September and October. They also have a full time off-season NM staff that is comprised entirely of Native Americans. This has a positive and lasting impact on a region with 42% unemployment.
SCHOOL TRIPS
Asbury United Methodist Church (in Bossier City, LA) is always delighted to have local schools, preschools, and after school programs visit the Pumpkin Patch during the month of October. Please use the form below to sign your group up for a visit. Give us your top two dates and times for visiting so that we can do our best to accommodate your schedule.
The pumpkin patch provides an opportunity for groups to explore a variety of shapes and sizes of pumpkins, take fun individual and group pictures, run and play in a large grassy area, and enjoy lunch or a snack at picnic tables in the Prayer Garden behind the patch.
Teachers/leaders are encouraged to take advantage of the patch and tailor activities to fit their students. Feel free to bring activities for your students that help to continue your classroom learning outside the walls of a building. Also, there will be a few opportunities available at the patch itself. Volunteers at the patch will have books teachers can use for a story time with their students in a reading area, chalk for drawing/coloring on the adjoining basketball court, coloring sheets for use at the patch or that can be taken back to school/home, a scavenger hunt that can be conducted among the pumpkins, frisbees/soccer balls for play in the open grassy areas, and an area with a bag toss, pumpkin checkers and a jumbo jenga game.
Small pumpkins are also available for students to purchase for one dollar. However, later in the month, these pumpkins are sometimes no longer available.
