It is so exciting to be a part of a church that honors, recognizes and supports young people both spiritually and financially as our students pursue their goals thru higher education. In the last two years, you have helped students achieve their dreams of the future by funding our scholarship program. Because of you and dedicated families, Asbury has firmly established five scholarship programs for our students. As you plan your giving throughout the year, please remember to include the variety of scholarship opportunities here. Any donation, honorarium or memorial would be most appreciated. Your gift will ensure the future of our program. Below you will find descriptions of each scholarship. If you are interested in learning more about our scholarships, please contact me or Linda McCrory at 746-5349. It truly takes a village! Thank your for being a community of faith that believes in Asburys future. - - Blessings, Angela Pfanner - Program Director
Scholarship Opportunities for Asbury Members:
Dr. Barry E. Hughes Scholarship: In January, 2007, Asbury Youth Boosters and Youth Staff established this scholarship in honor of Bro. Barrys weekly commitment and longtime service to our youth group. Bro. Barry always encouraged and promoted higher education and especially United Methodist Colleges to our youth group, so Youth Boosters/Staff chose to honor Bro. Barrys service to our church through this annual scholarship in his honor. The Barry Hughes Scholarship Award is funded by donations from our church family. The recipient of this award must be attending a four year United Methodist College; have a 3.0 gpa; submit three letters of recommendation and submit a 600-700 word essay on “Living Out My Faith” to our scholarship committee. Applications for this scholarship must be submitted by April 1, 2009. The committee will make the selection and contact recipients by May 1, 2009. Scholarship recognition will be held at both worship services on Senior Sunday, May 3rd. You may click here for an application.
Katy Watkins Memorial Scholarship: In 2007, the Katy Watkins Memorial Scholarship Fund was established and plans began to award a senior from the class of 2009. Katy excelled in many areas of her life and academics were no exception. She believed in strongly pursuing your future through higher education and it seems most fitting to give an academic award in Katys name. This scholarship is for an Asbury graduating church member who plans to attend a four year Louisiana university, maintains at least a 3.0 gpa, submits three letters of recommendation and a a 600 word essay on “Making a Difference”. The Katy Watkins Memorial Scholarship is funded by our church family. Our scholarship committee makes the selection. Applications for this scholarship must be submitted by April 1, 2009.
