Missions at Asbury
Asbury has been actively involved in numerous mission projects since the church was established. According to Christian belief, we are responsible for helping our neighbors when they are in need. Today, in our global society, our neighbors can be across the street, the city, the state, the nation, or the globe. Members of Asbury, both young and not so young, have participated in many hands-on mission activities designed to assist our neighbors in need. The committee meets quarterly, and is open to anyone interested in mission work. Dennis Bouck is our Mission Director and he welcomes you to join in the many mission opportunities that are available at Asbury.
The next mission meeting will be on Monday, February 28, 2010 at 6:30 pm in the Friendship Classroom. Please know that everyone is invited and welcome to these meetings. There is a job for anyone who wishes to take part in this important outreach at Asbury. We are asking all mission team members to bring a guest who they feel would be a good addition to the team.

The Renesting Project
The Renesting Project is an outreach mission project through Asbury UMC in Bossier City, LA whose purpose is to gather and provide reclaimed furniture and household goods to those transitioning from homelessness within our community. Please recycle your alluminum cans!
The Mission Committee collects these cans for recycling on the second Sunday of each month. Bring the cans in plastic bags and leave near the mowing shed behind the youth wing. Help the mission team and the environment at the same time.
PLEASE EMPTY AND RINSE CANS.
All proceeds go to Asbury Mission Fund

Keep those cans coming! Did you know that the mission committee has received over $400 from the sale of aluminum cans. This money will be used in our outreach programs both locally and internationally. Additionally just think how many pounds of cans we have kept out of the local landfills. Bring your cans at anytime and place them near the storage building behind the church. No plastic items or steel cans please.
Keeping Tabs on Kami!
Before you donate the cans, pull the tabs off and donate to the St. Jude Ronald McDonald House, in honor of Kami Chauncy. Drop off your tabs in the designated container in the children's lobby at Asbury.
Mexico Report
By Ronnie Lawrence: Our September mission was in Diaz Ordaz, a small village about 45 min from Reynosa, Mexico. The task was to make repairs to the parsonage. The roof was leaking and the interior was in bad shape. It had been raining for several days and was raining when we got there. The pastor and one of the men in the church had already started putting the tin on the roof. We started on the inside putting up sheet rock and making minor electrical repairs The second day we finished the sheet rock and started preparing it for paint. We also built some shelves in the kitchen. The pastor and his wife and sometimes his daughter and granddaughter live in the 600 sq ft 3 room. Pray for Pastor Pablo Galindo and his ministry.
A House of Light
By Emily Watkins: This year it has been my EXTREME privilege to volunteer at Bossier's VOA Lighthouse program. Each Thursday I tutor Z, the most precious second grade boy who has taught me more than I could ever think about teaching him. From writing spelling words three times each to practicing subtraction and learning how to read, Z and I laugh, cry, become frustrated, snack, and play games until its time to go home. These two short hours of the day brighten my whole entire week and remind me what is really important in life. I could not think of a better name for a humble program that takes place in a run down house; it not only sheds light into my life, but it is an anchor for each and every one of its thirty-five students.

Special Offerings
Each Sunday, there are baskets located at the back of the sanctuary and in the aisles on Communion Sundays. On most Sundays, the offering collected in these baskets are sent to Centerpoint, which is a clearing house for local people needing emergency assistance with utilities, gasoline, rent, etc. Centerpoint has received over $3000 from the special offerings at Asbury. On Special Sundays, the offerings are used for designated agencies as mentioned in the bulletin for that week. Thanks to everyone who has dropped a donation in these baskets throughout the year.
